Syndactyly is a term referring to the condition of having webbed fingers or toes. There are various synonyms for this condition, such as webbing, digit fusion, or conjoined digits. Some other closely related terms include polydactyly, which refers to the presence of extra fingers or toes, and ectrodactyly, which is the absence or deformity of one or more fingers or toes. Syndactyly can occur as a genetic condition or as a result of certain disorders such as Apert syndrome or Poland syndrome. Surgical correction is usually recommended for syndactyly cases that interfere with everyday activities.
