The Tappan Zee Bridge, also known as the Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge, has been an iconic and essential road crossing over the Hudson River in New York since its opening in 1955. However, many other names and synonyms have been used to refer to this majestic structure over the years, including the Tappan Zee Hudson River Bridge, the Tappan Bridge, the Tappan Sea Bridge, the TZ Bridge, and the Tapp. With its retirement and replacement by the Mario Cuomo Bridge, it will now be known as the Old Tappan Zee Bridge or simply the Tappan Zee. Whatever the name, this bridge will continue to hold a special place in the hearts of New Yorkers.
