Taruca is a species of deer found in South America that is also known as the north Andean deer. The animal has a unique appearance with a grayish-brown coat and white fur on the belly, throat, and under the tail. Tarucas have also been referred to by other names, such as the Huemul or Hippocamelus antisensis. These synonyms are commonly used in different regions and languages. In Peru, it is called kalinka, and in Chile, it is taruco. Other names include the Andean deer, pudu, or guara.
