Tauopathy refers to a group of neurological diseases in which there is a buildup of a protein called tau in the brain. Scientists have identified various tauopathies, including Alzheimer's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration (CBD). There are several synonyms for tauopathy that are used to describe this group of diseases, including tauopathies, tau proteinopathies, and neurofibrillary tangleopathies. These terms all refer to the same group of diseases that are characterized by the accumulation of tau proteins in the brain. While there is currently no cure for tauopathies, medical researchers are continuing to work on developing new treatments and therapies to help manage symptoms and slow the progression of these diseases.
