The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is commonly known as Czechia, a one-word alternative that has started to be used more frequently in recent years. Other synonyms for the Czech Republic include Bohemia, which refers to one of the historical regions of the country, and Moravia, another region of the country located in the east. The name Czechoslovakia, which was used until the country's dissolution in 1993, is also sometimes incorrectly used in reference to the Czech Republic. Additionally, the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, making it part of the larger European community.
