The Federal Bureau of Investigation, commonly referred to as the FBI, is the primary investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice. Other terms often used to describe this agency include the Bureau, FBI Agency or the Feds. Given its reputation for being a top investigative agency, many people refer to the FBI as simply the "Feds". Certain government officials or members of the legal community may also refer to the FBI as the Justice Department's "investigative branch," or the nation's "criminal investigative force". Despite the variety of ways to refer to the FBI, this agency's primary mission to protect the United States from both domestic and foreign threats remains the same.
