There are several synonyms for the term "the Lord Buddha," some of which include: Shakyamuni Buddha, Tathagata, the Buddha Shakyamuni, Siddhartha Gautama, and the Enlightened One. Shakyamuni Buddha refers to the historical Buddha, who lived and taught in India around 2,500 years ago. Tathagata is often used as an honorific title for the Buddha, meaning "thus gone" or "thus come." The Buddha Shakyamuni emphasizes the Buddha's earthly nature and his belonging to the Shakya clan. Siddhartha Gautama was the name given to the prince who later became the Buddha. Lastly, the Enlightened One acknowledges the Buddha's ultimate achievement of transcending suffering and attaining enlightenment.
