The tortricid moth is a common insect found in many regions around the globe. This species belongs to the Lepidoptera family and is sometimes called the leafroller because the caterpillar rolls or ties leaves together to create a protective cocoon. There are many other names and synonyms that are used interchangeably for tortricid moth, including the fruitworm, fruit moth, budworm, and codling moth. Each of these names is used for different species of the family Tortricidae, which consists of more than 10,000 species. Despite different names, all these moths share some common characteristics, like the tight rolling posture of the caterpillar during the larval stage, which gives them excellent camouflage against predators.
