Totipotency is the ability of a single cell to develop into a complete organism. Other words that can be used to describe totipotency include omnipotency, pluripotency, and multipotency. Omnipotency refers to the unlimited power or ability of a single cell to transform into any type of cell in the body. Pluripotency is the ability of a cell to differentiate into any type of cell in the body except for those found in the placenta. Multipotency, on the other hand, is the ability of a cell to differentiate into a limited number of cell types, such as stem cells that can develop into different types of blood cells.
