Traditional Birth Attendant, also known as TBA, is a term used to describe an individual who helps women deliver their babies outside of a hospital setting. However, this term is being replaced with other synonyms such as community birth worker, lay midwife, community midwife, and birth companion. These terms aim to promote the recognition of such workers in communities and healthcare systems. Community birth workers highlight the role of traditional birth attendants as valuable members of the community who provide essential care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Additionally, community midwives embody the collaborative relationship between traditional birth attendants and healthcare providers. This change in terminology aims to promote cultural diversity and inclusivity in maternal healthcare.
