Tragulus Javanicus is commonly known as the Javan chevrotain, a small deer-like animal native to Java and other islands in Southeast Asia. However, there are various synonyms used to refer to this animal, depending on the region. In some areas, it is called the Java mouse deer, or simply, mouse deer. Other synonyms include lesser mouse deer, Java mousedeer, red mouse deer, and lesser Malay chevrotain. No matter the name, this tiny herbivore is known for its cute appearance, with short legs, a small head, and large, doe-like eyes. Despite its small size, it is an important part of the region's ecosystem and plays a vital role in maintaining forest habitats.
