Tree-worship is an ancient spiritual practice that revolves around the veneration of trees as sacred objects, deities or natural phenomena. This worship has many synonyms in different languages and cultures. In Greek mythology, it was known as dendrolatry, while in Hinduism, it is called vanaprastha, meaning 'forest-dweller'. In Japan, it is referred to as shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, a form of relaxation therapy. Adoration of trees as sacred objects is also called arborolatry. The practice of worshiping nature and natural objects is referred to as animism. While these words have different connotations, they all signify reverence and appreciation for the natural environment.
