Tritanopia, a type of colour blindness in which individuals are unable to perceive blue and green hues, is a relatively uncommon condition. Some of the synonyms for tritanopia are blue-yellow colour blindness, tritanomaly, and blue defect. In contrast to protanopia, which affects the perception of red hues, and deuteranopia, which affects the perception of green hues, tritanopia is caused by the absence or deficiency of the short-wavelength cones in the retina. Individuals with tritanopia may have difficulty differentiating between shades of blue and green or confusing them with shades of pink or purple. While there is no cure for tritanopia, technological advancements have helped to reduce its impact on the lives of people with the condition.
