A tropical cyclone, commonly referred to as a hurricane or typhoon depending on the region where it occurs, is a type of storm system characterized by sustained winds of at least 74 miles per hour. Other names for tropical cyclones include severe tropical cyclones, tropical storms, and simply cyclones. In some areas, they are also known as baguios, Willy-willies, or simply referred to by the name of the place where they occur, such as a "Florida storm" or a "Texas twister." Regardless of the name, tropical cyclones can be incredibly destructive and cause significant damage to coastlines and communities.
