UPC or Universal Product Code is a barcode symbology adopted by many countries for tracking trade items in stores. While UPC is the most used term for this barcode system, there are several synonyms for UPC that can be used interchangeably. Some of the common alternatives for UPC include GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), EAN (European Article Number), JAN (Japanese Article Number), ISBN (International Standard Book Number), and ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number). Additionally, some countries also use their own versions of UPC, like the JAN code in Japan. However, despite the different names, these barcode systems all serve the same purpose of identifying and tracking products in the global trade market.
