Upper Volta Franc was the official currency of the West African country, Burkina Faso, until 1997. Today, the currency of Burkina Faso is called the West African CFA franc. However, some synonyms for Upper Volta Franc may include Burkina Faso franc, Franc des Colonies Françaises d'Afrique, West African franc or simply the Volta franc. These were all terms used to refer to the currency during its time in circulation. Although it is no longer in use, the Upper Volta Franc remains an interesting piece of history and a reminder of the changing economic landscape of West Africa.
