Vanern is a large lake situated in the southwestern part of Sweden. It is the largest lake in the European Union and the third-largest in Europe. This vast body of water has several synonyms, such as Lake Vänern, Venerien, Venern, Vänerhavet, and Vænern, among others. Vänern is located in the lake district of Värmland and borders with the Dalsland region. The lake's primary inflows are the Klarälven river, carrying vast amounts of water, and the waters of the rivers Viskan and Ätran. The lake is famous for its excellent fishing opportunities, particularly fish species such as pikeperch, burbot, and salmon. Vanern's name is said to originate from the Swedish word for "water," indicating how vital this natural resource is for the region.
