Venereal warts, also known as genital warts, are a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are several synonyms for venereal warts or genital warts, such as condyloma acuminatum, anogenital warts, and sexually transmitted HPV infection. These terms are often used interchangeably, but they all refer to the same medical condition. Genital warts appear as flesh-colored, raised bumps or cauliflower-shaped growths on or around the genitals, anus, or mouth. They are highly contagious and can be transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person. Using condoms during sexual activity can help prevent the spread of HPV and genital warts.
