Vietminh was the name given to the Vietnamese revolutionary movement that opposed colonialism and fought for the country's independence from France. The term Vietminh is derived from two words- Vietnam and Minh, which means brightness or illumination. There are several synonyms for the word Vietminh, such as the Vietnamese Independence League, Viet Nam Doc Lap Dong Minh Hoi, and the League for the Independence of Vietnam. Additionally, it is also sometimes called the National Liberation Front, or NLF, which is a broader term that encompassed several factions of the revolutionary movement. The term Vietminh is still often used today to refer to the Vietnamese resistance fighters who fought against French colonial rule.
