The Virgo Cluster is a group of galaxies located in the constellation Virgo. It is also known as the Virgo Supercluster, Virgo Coma Cluster or the Local Supercluster. Additionally, it has been referred to as the Markarian Chain due to a row of galaxies that appear to be chained together. Other possible synonyms for the Virgo Cluster include the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies, the M87 Subcluster, and the Intracluster Region. Despite the variations in name, the Virgo Cluster remains an important area of research and study for astronomers and is considered to be one of the closest galaxy clusters to our own Milky Way.
