Visual aphasia is a condition that affects one's ability to recognize visual stimuli. This condition may also be referred to as visual agnosia or visual perception deficit. People suffering from visual aphasia may have difficulty identifying and recognizing objects, faces and even colors. They may also have difficulty in understanding what they are looking at. Some synonyms for visual aphasia include apperceptive, associative, and object agnosias. Apperceptive agnosia refers to the inability to accurately recognize the shape of objects. Associative agnosia, on the other hand, is the inability to recognize an object even when its shape is correctly identified. Whilst Object agnosia is a general term used to describe all forms of visual agnosia.
