Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP is a popular technology used for transmitting voice and multimedia communication over the internet protocol. Some of the alternative terms used for VoIP include IP telephony, internet telephony, broadband telephony, and internet calling. These synonyms are used interchangeably with VoIP to describe the same technology. Additionally, there are various brands of VoIP services that use their own proprietary terms such as Skype, Google Hangouts, and Microsoft Teams. Despite using different names, all these services operate under the same basic technology and offer users voice and video calling services at affordable prices compared to traditional telephone networks.
