Wait-a-bit thorn is a large thorny shrub or tree that is found in Africa. Its scientific name is Acacia drepanolobium, and it is also known by several other common names. One of the most common synonyms for wait-a-bit thorn is the "whistling thorn" due to the sound of the wind moving through its hollowed out thorns. Another synonym for wait-a-bit thorn is the "hook thorn" due to the sharp hooks that grow on the thorns, making it difficult to pass by without getting caught. The Maasai people also call it "olussut" or "ol ndorobo" which translates to "the stealer" or "the thief", due to the thorn's tendency to cling onto animals and steal items from passersby.
