World War I was a significant event in world history, also referred to by several names such as the Great War, the War to End All Wars, or the European War. The Great War name came from the massive scale of the conflict, while the War to End All Wars title portrayed the widespread hope that the end of the war would end or prevent future conflicts. Apart from these two common names, the European War highlighted the war's location while The War of Nations emphasized the participating countries' involvement. Other less popular names for the conflict include The Imperial War, The Trench War, and The Modern War. Nonetheless, regardless of the particular name used, WWI remains a significant historical event.
