An X-ray scan, also known as radiography, is a medical imaging technique that uses ionizing radiation to produce images of internal body structures. However, there are alternative terms used synonymously with "X-ray scan" in different contexts. For example, it may be called a radiograph, roentgenogram, or plain film depending on the medical specialty. In dental practices, this method is often referred to as dental X-rays. Technological advancements have also led to newer terms like computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. These are all different ways to visualize different aspects in medical imaging, but they are still related to the use of ionizing radiation and create images similar to an X-ray scan.
