Yangchuanosaurus is a genus of carnivorous dinosaurs that lived during the Late Jurassic period, about 161 million to 145 million years ago. Some synonyms for the word Yangchuanosaurus include Carcharodontosaurus, Chilantaisaurus, Eocarcharia, and Megalosaurus. The fossils of Yangchuanosaurus were first discovered in China in 1979, and the dinosaur was named after the Yangchuan fossil beds in Sichuan Province. Yangchuanosaurus was a dominant predator of its time, with its sharp teeth and massive body enabling it to hunt and kill large herbivorous dinosaurs. Despite its intimidating appearance, Yangchuanosaurus eventually went extinct along with other predatory dinosaurs at the end of the Jurassic era.
