Agrammatism refers to the difficulty in generating grammatically correct sentences due to impairment in language processing. There are several synonyms for the term agrammatism, including asyntactic speech, non-fluent aphasia, truncated speech and telegraphic speech. Asyntactic speech indicates the absence or impairment of syntactic structure, whereas non-fluent aphasia suggests a difficulty in language output. Truncated speech and telegraphic speech both describe the reduction in the length and complexity of sentences produced due to agrammatism. By using synonyms of agrammatism, the communication of the diagnosis and related information can be more effective and understandable for people unfamiliar with the technical language of speech pathology.
