Ahura Mazda is a term used in Zoroastrianism to refer to the supreme deity, also known as the Wise Lord. The term has its roots in ancient Iran and is composed of two words, "Ahura" meaning "lord" or "god" and "Mazda" which means "wisdom" or "understanding". However, there are several synonyms for Ahura Mazda used in Zoroastrianism such as Spenta Mainyu which refers to the Holy Spirit or the creative aspect of God, and Amesha Spentas which are the seven immortal entities that surround the throne of Ahura Mazda. Other synonyms include the "Farvardin" or guardian angels, "Yazatas" or beings that protect certain aspects of life, and "daeva" which refers to the evil spirit or 'false god'.
