Alectis ciliaris is commonly known as the threadfin trevally, but there are several other names for this fish that are used interchangeably. In some regions, it is referred to as the pennant fish due to its elongated dorsal fin that resembles a flag or pennant. Another popular name for Alectis ciliaris is the golden trevally, which describes the fish's golden-yellow coloration. In parts of Asia, it is called the black dot trevally because of the small black spots that pepper its body. Other synonyms for Alectis ciliaris include the springer trevally, glossy trevally, and fork-tailed trevally. Regardless of its name, this fish is highly prized by anglers for its firm, white meat and fighting ability.
