Alphard, also known as Alpha Hydrae, is a star in the constellation Hydra and is among the brightest stars in the night sky. The term Alphard can be used interchangeably with some synonyms such as Alpha Hydrae, RA 09h27, HD81797, FK5 350, and HIP46390. Alpha Hydrae is also known as a K3 giant star, meaning that it's an aging star with a similar but larger size relative to the sun. Despite the prominence in the constellation Hydra, the star Alphard is not used for navigation purposes due to its location. Nonetheless, the star presents an interesting astronomical subject for study and observation.
