Aramus Pictus, commonly known as the Painted Bunting, is a vibrantly colored bird found primarily in North America. There are several synonyms that are often used to refer to this stunning species, including Varied Bunting, Rainbow Bunting, and Multicolored Bunting. The name "painted" is derived from the male's stunningly bright plumage, which features bold strokes of blue, green, red, and yellow. In contrast, the female Painted Bunting is a duller green color with blue-gray wings. Despite their striking appearance, these birds are elusive and tend to prefer dense brushy habitats where they can hide from predators.
