Arawak is a term that refers to an indigenous tribe that originated in South America but later spread across the Caribbean and the Pacific. Over time, the tribe has gained different synonyms such as the Tainos, who were the primary inhabitants of Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and the Lesser Antilles. Another synonym for Arawak is the Lokono people who resided in what is now known as Guyana.
