The autonomic plexus is a network of nerves that controls the function of organs and glands in the body. It is also known as the visceral or involuntary nervous system. There are several synonyms for autonomic plexus, including autonomic nerves, autonomic ganglia, and autonomic system. The autonomic nervous system is further divided into two branches, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. These systems work in opposition to control the "fight or flight" response and the "rest and digest" response, respectively. Other synonyms related to the autonomic plexus include the enteric nervous system and the intrinsic nervous system, which are responsible for the regulation of the gastrointestinal tract.
