Blue pikeperch, also known as blue walleye, is a fish species that is native to the Great Lakes region of North America. In addition to its common name, this fish is also referred to by several synonyms, including blue-pickerel, blue-walleye, blue-jack, and blue-salmon. These alternate names are often used interchangeably in different regions, and can be confusing for those unfamiliar with the species. Regardless of what it's called, the blue pikeperch is a prized gamefish and is heavily sought after by anglers for its firm, white flesh and mild flavor. Despite overfishing and habitat loss, conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore dwindling populations of this iconic freshwater species.
