Brachydactyly refers to a genetic condition in which a person has unusually short fingers and toes. There are several synonyms for this term that can be used interchangeably. These include short-fingered syndrome, stubby fingers, stubby toes, chubbiness syndrome, and clubbed fingers. Additionally, there are four different types of brachydactyly, with each type showcasing different symptoms and characteristics. Type A, for example, affects the middle phalanx bone in the fourth and fifth digits, while type C affects the proximal phalanx bone in the index and middle fingers. Although brachydactyly does not pose serious health risks, it can cause cosmetic differences and affect an individual's ability to perform certain tasks.
