Cacalia is a genus of herbs belonging to the family Asteraceae. These plants are native to Asia and North America. The word "cacalia" has few synonyms, but one of the most widely used is "Indian plantain." Other less common synonyms include sweet cotton, sweet flag, and sweet root. Cacalia plants have been used for medicinal purposes for centuries; extracts from their roots are believed to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. In addition, the roots are used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine as a tonic for the liver and kidneys.
