Castanea Ozarkensis is commonly referred to as the Ozark Chinquapin. It is a small deciduous tree that is native to the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains in the United States. The Ozark Chinquapin is also known by several other names, including the Ozark Chestnut, Rock Chestnut, and Arkansas Chinquapin. Despite its small size, the tree produces large, edible nuts that were once an important part of the diet of indigenous peoples and early settlers in the area. Unfortunately, the species has been threatened in recent years by a fungal disease known as chestnut blight. However, efforts are being made to preserve and restore populations of the Ozark Chinquapin in its native habitat.
