Castanea chrysophylla, commonly known as the golden chinkapin or bush chinquapin, is a tree species endemic to the west coast of the United States. The word "chinkapin" is often used as a synonym for this tree, as it is also a common name for several other species of chestnut trees. However, other synonyms for Castanea chrysophylla include "golden chestnut" and "deepwoods chestnut". The leaves of this tree are also sometimes referred to as "spiny-toothed" or "toothed-ovate". The nuts, which are edible and were historically an important food source for indigenous peoples, are sometimes called "mountain chestnuts". However, regardless of the name, Castanea chrysophylla remains an important and unique species in the western forests of North America.
