Golden Chinkapin is a tree species belonging to the oak family. The tree is native to the southeastern United States and is also known as the Chinkapin oak tree. There are several synonyms for the Golden Chinkapin, including the Quercus muehlenbergii, Quercus lyrata, Quercus prinoides, and Quercus michauxii. Depending on the region, these different names might be used interchangeably. The Golden Chinkapin tree usually grows between 30 and 50 feet tall and can be identified by its deeply lobed leaves, which are a glossy shade of green and change to orange and yellow in the fall. The tree also produces acorns that are highly valued by wildlife.
