The family of trees known as Cecropiaceae encompasses ten genera and over 200 species, including the popular houseplant, the rubber tree. Although not a commonly recognized term, Cecropiaceae is occasionally referred to as the trumpet tree family, due to the shape of the flower. Another term that may be used to describe Cecropiaceae is the Cecropia family, named after the most commonly recognized genus of these trees. Some less formal synonyms for Cecropiaceae that may be used include the breadfruit family, or more specifically, the wild breadfruit family, due to the fruit found on some species of these trees.
