Central serous retinopathy is a condition that causes temporary vision loss due to buildup of fluid in the central retina. This condition can also be referred to as central serous chorioretinopathy or simply, CSR. Other terms used to describe this condition include central serous detachment, idiopathic central serous chorioretinopathy, and focal serous retinopathy. Some physicians may also use the term macular edema, as fluid accumulates in the macula causing swelling and distorted vision. While the exact cause of this condition is unknown, there are certain risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing it, including stress, corticosteroid use, and smoking.
