Cerebrohepatorenal syndrome, also known as Zellweger syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder that affects multiple organ systems, including the brain, liver, and kidneys. This syndrome is caused by mutations in genes that are involved in the production and function of specific proteins within cells. There are no synonyms for cerebrohepatorenal syndrome, but it is often grouped with other disorders that affect peroxisome biogenesis, including neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy and infantile Refsum disease. These disorders share similar signs and symptoms, such as developmental delays, liver dysfunction, and vision and hearing impairments. Diagnosis of cerebrohepatorenal syndrome relies on clinical features and genetic testing.
