Cervus canadensis sibiricus, also known as the Siberian elk or maral deer, is a subspecies of elk that inhabits forests and meadows across northern Asia. There are several synonyms for this majestic animal, including the East Siberian elk, the Yakutian elk, and the Buryatian elk. In Russia, it is sometimes referred to as the Barguzin deer, named after the river on which it was first discovered. The Siberian elk is one of the largest subspecies of elk, with males weighing up to 700 kilograms and sporting impressive antlers that can span over a meter in length. Despite its impressive size and stature, the Siberian elk is considered a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and hunting.
