Synonyms for chaddar include dupatta, a long scarf typically worn over the head and shoulder; shawl, a piece of fabric used for warmth or decorative purposes; and muffler, a long scarf wrapped around the neck. Other synonymous terms for chaddar are gamchha, a thin and coarse cotton cloth used for wiping off sweat; lungi, a rectangular cloth worn around the waist as a garment; and phulkari, a type of embroidered shawl often worn by Punjabi women.
