Chadors are a traditional and modest piece of clothing worn by women in parts of the Middle East. Many cultures have similar garments, though they may be called different things. In Arabic-speaking countries, a chador is sometimes referred to as an abaya, while in Iran, it is called a manto. In South Asia, a similar garment worn by Muslim women is called a burqa or a hijab. In some areas of Africa, the chador is called a jilbab or a khimar. Regardless of the name, the purpose of these garments is to cover the body and head, thus fulfilling the cultural and religious requirements of modesty.
