It is a popular ornamental plant in gardens due to its beautiful, showy pink or white flowers that bloom in early summer. In addition to coast rhododendron, this plant is also commonly referred to as California rosebay, Oregon azalea, and Cascade azalea. The term "rhododendron" actually comes from the Greek words "rhodon", meaning rose, and "dendron", meaning tree.
