This herbaceous perennial plant is popularly known as "lemon clover" because of its clover-like leaves and sour lemon flavor. It is also known as "soursob" due to its acidic taste and "pickle plant" because of its frequent use in pickling. The plant is also referred to as "wild shamrock," as its three-lobed leaves look similar to those of the Irish symbol. It has also been called "lucky clover" because of this resemblance. Another synonym for the common wood sorrel is "sheep sorrel," although this name is often confused with a different species of sorrel.
