"Computerized axial tomography" (CAT) is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to produce detailed images of internal body structures. It is also commonly referred to as "computed tomography" (CT), "computed axial tomography" (CAT scan), or simply "CT scan". Other synonyms for this term include "digital imaging and communications in medicine" (DICOM), "magnetic resonance imaging" (MRI), and "positron emission tomography" (PET scan). These technologies have revolutionized the field of medical diagnosis by providing non-invasive methods of visualizing internal structures and identifying abnormalities or diseases. Despite their differences in technology, these terms are often used interchangeably in medical discussions and literature.
