Some alternative names for coydogs include coyote-dogs, coywolf, coydoges, and coyowolf. Other regional names for these hybrids include brush breed, prairie wolf, and brush coyote. In some parts of the United States, coydogs are also referred to as coyote hybrids or coyote mixes. Recently, there has been a debate over whether or not the term "coydog" is scientifically accurate, as some suggest that it is technically incorrect to label a hybrid as one specific species or another.
