Crab Nebula, a supernova remnant in the constellation of Taurus, has multiple synonyms depending on different traditions and cultures. In Western astronomy, it's referred to as M1, the first object in Messier's catalogue. Conversely, in traditional Chinese astronomy, it's called Taurus Nebula, and in Islamic astronomy, it's named Al-Fajr Al-Thani, meaning "The Second Dawn." In Hindu astronomy, it's known as Prajapati's Nebula due to its association with Prajapati, the Hindu god responsible for creating the universe. The term Crab Nebula itself comes from the observation of its shape by an astronomer, William Parsons, in the 1800s.
